On the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo demonstrated her commitment to protecting reproductive freedom, holding a roundtable discussion with abortion providers and announcing a new bill to increase access to abortion.
Meanwhile, Gabe Evans and Scott James celebrated National Sanctity of Life Day amid their party’s latest attacks on reproductive freedom. The GOP House majority just passed two dangerous anti-abortion bills, and extreme in-state groups are working to put a measure on the ballot that would ban abortion in Colorado.
Reminder: Evans supported banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. James introduced a “Sanctity of Life” resolution before the Weld County Commission that sought to undermine abortion protections outlined in Colorado law. He also called Colorado’s current abortion protections “horrible.”
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“While Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo is laser-focused on protecting and expanding reproductive freedom, Gabe Evans and Scott James couldn’t be more extreme and dangerous for Colorado women. As anti-abortion extremists in Congress try to ban abortion, Evans and James would fall in line right behind them.”
Fifty-one years after the landmark — but since overturned — Roe v. Wade ruling was handed down, U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo on Monday unveiled a bill she plans to introduce in Congress that’s aimed at increasing access to abortion.
The Abortion Care Enhancement and Support Services Act of 2024 would provide federal funding for hospitals and clinics in those states to meet the demand for abortion services from residents and people coming in from out of state.
Caraveo…made the announcement during a roundtable discussion in the afternoon with other medical providers and abortion policy advocates. They detailed struggles to get people in for care, patients’ fears of criminalization and the difficulties faced by fewer providers in meeting the demand for abortion services.
During her time in the Colorado legislature, Caraveo supported bills that expanded reproductive access — including one that provided free contraception to immigrants who are undocumented — and protected abortion access. In Congress, she has co-sponsored a bill to protect abortion in federal law.
