Rep. Claudia Tenney Claims, Twice in One Day, That COVID-19 Vaccines are Killing People

Tenney called the vaccines “experimental” and claimed to know people who’ve died from receiving them

Twice in one day, vulnerable Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney has made the outrageous claim that COVID-19 vaccines are killing people — and that she personally knows people who have died from them.

In a tele-town hall Wednesday, Tenney claimed:

“I’ve had friends who have been very sick and died from the vaccine, so I take it seriously.”

And in an interview with the extremist right-wing network Newsmax on the same day, Tenney said that:

“There are a lot of people who had covid and are being advised by their doctor not to get the shot because they’ll have negative consequences by having covid reintroduced into their body.”

Later in that same interview, Tenney continued to push false claims, adding that:

“People who have gotten the vaccines are dying, have issues, have extenuating circumstances and health problems from it … It took a while to get it approved and it is still an experimental vaccine.”

The three major COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States are approved for use by the FDA, including Pfizer which has received full approval. None of the three vaccines utilize a live virus, meaning it is not even possible to contract COVID-19 from them.

As of October 17th, the New York State Department of Health reports:

“112,966 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in New York State, which corresponds to 0.9% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.

7,629 hospitalizations with COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in New York State, which corresponds to 0.06% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.”

As of October 22, nearly 220 million Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 6.8 billion doses have been distributed worldwide, demonstrating the safety of the vaccines in real-world applications, not to mention their effectiveness in preventing severe illness and hospitalization.

DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola

“Claudia Tenney continues to spread dangerous medical disinformation that threatens New York and the country’s pandemic recovery. Vaccines have proven to be incredibly safe and overwhelmingly effective in preventing severe illness and hospitalization, particularly in Tenney’s home state. The congresswoman’s continued insistence on spreading disinformation to burnish her brand as an extremist Republican is endangering the health and economic recovery of her own constituents.”
