Rep. David Schweikert Votes Against Protecting the Right to Vote

Vulnerable Republican David Schweikert joins his party in voting to continue allowing states to enact discriminatory laws that make it harder to vote

Today, Rep. David Schweikert voted against H.R. 4, the landmark John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and strengthen anti-discrimination enforcement authorities in the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As states across the country pass Jim Crow-style voter intimidation and suppression laws, Rep. David Schweikert voted to continue to allow states to restrict access to the ballot box, especially for voters of color, low income voters, seniors, servicemembers, and voters with disabilities.

“Republicans like Rep. David Schweikert would rather choose their voters than the other way around,” said DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw. “Instead of actually passing policies that help hardworking Americans, Rep. Schweikert once again sided with those in his party who are trying to change the rules to keep folks from voting.”
