Rep. Devin Nunes Defends His “Right” to Fly Private Luxury Jets With Campaign Cash

Nunes Flaunts Ethics Law Adopted By Congress Following Abramoff Scandal

Apparently, when Rep. Devin Nunes isn’t sitting in a FOX News greenroom getting ready to defend the most recent reckless action by Trump or finding new ways to avoid his constituents, he is using lawyers to fight for his “right” to use thousands of dollars in political donations to fly around the country on private luxury jets.

Per campaign finance filings, Nunes paid $5,518 to air charter company Paramount Business Jets in 2018. Paramount Business Jets bills itself as “Luxury as Standard” and offers “private jet flights to and from any major city in the world, in any size aircraft with as little as 4 hours of notice.” One problem?

Following the 2007 Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, Congress passed the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act banning Members from using campaign funds for non-commercial air travel. The Federal Election Commission (FEC), which is deadlocked due to empty seats on the Commission that Trump refuses to fill, dismissed Nunes’ case.

Good for Nunes, bad for voters.

“It’s no wonder Rep. Nunes has time to file frivolous lawsuits against his social media critics and defend his right to use campaign cash to fund his lavish lifestyle. He refuses to meet with or hear from his own constituents,” said DCCC Spokesperson, Andy Orellana. “Luxury private jets at the ready for any major city in the world are just another example of how completely out of touch Rep. Nunes is with the Central Valley and exactly why voters will choose someone new in November.”
