Rep. Duncan Hunter Reports to Federal Court Today For Illegally Diverting $250k In Campaign Funds For Personal Use

Hunter’s Legal Defense Chalks up Sexual Harassment He Perpetrated Simply “A Married Man Mixing Business With Pleasure”

Rep. Duncan Hunter will report to Federal Court today under a 60-count criminal indictment for illegally diverting $250,000 in campaign funds for personal use, including to fund lavish vacations from Europe to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas, to improper relationships with three lobbyists and two Congressional staffers

But Hunter’s legal defense today will be beyond bold…but a boldfaced lie…with Hunter arguing that he was actually “working” when he spent campaign money on weekend getaways, date nights, golf outings, bar tabs, and Uber rides when undertaking at least five late night political tryst with lobbyists and staffers. Hunter will argue that he was simply “a married man mixing business with pleasure,” and being that these were with staff and lobbyists they “served an overtly political purpose.”

Congressman Hunter’s humiliating beginning to the week lays out for Californians exactly how he does business in Washington, and it’s not a pretty picture,” said DCCC Spokesperson, Andy Orellana. Not only has Hunter displayed a complete disregard for any ethical conduct while serving in Congress, the details of Hunter’s misuse of funds, mixed with unacceptable sexual misconduct, demonstrate – once again – that Congressman Hunter is unfit to serve. With Congressman Hunter’s jaw-dropping legal defense in hand, it is a failure of Republican leadership in Washington that they continue to stand by his conduct while pocketing hundreds of thousands in campaign donations from him.”

Today’s criminal proceeding, follows recent allegations against Rep. Hunter for inappropriately groping a former Congressional staffer at an NRCC dinner which Hunter has called “total baloney.” Since Hunter’s criminal indictment, he’s been stripped of his committee assignments and isn’t allowed to help craft bills, while the NRCC has continued to hold onto nearly $220,000 of his financial support.
