Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler Mounts Newest Inquiry Defense, the Age-Old ‘The Dog Ate My Homework’

What Ambassador Sondland Testimony? Herrera Beutler was Elected to Lead, Not to Read…

Another day, another excuse from Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler…

Earlier this month, Rep. Herrera Beutler said the U.S. House of Representatives should hold a formal vote on the inquiry in order to grant bipartisan legitimacy to the investigation and grant House Republicans subpoena power. Despite this, she then spent the next weeks declining time and again to tell the voters how she would vote to only THEN choose her party over country and vote the D.C. Republican party line.

NOW, as Gordon Sondland, a key witness to the President’s abuse of power and Trump’s ambassador to the European Union, testified this week that there was in fact a quid pro quo arrangement with Ukraine – when asked Rep. Herrera Beutler wouldn’t comment on the bombshell news, instead mounting the age-old defense of the dog ate her homework saying she hadn’t reviewed the testimony because it was too many pages to read.

“Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler and her Republican colleagues in Congress are fully aware that if they read the witness transcripts and evaluate the mounting evidence on the merits, they would not be able to defend the President’s behavior,” Statement from DCCC Press Secretary, Andy Orellana. “Ultimately, no one is above the law, and Herrera Beutler knows better. So instead of reading the details, Herrera Beutler would rather spend her time looking for new excuses.”
