Rep. Kevin Yoder’s Broken Promise on Pre-Existing Conditions

DCCC Launches Digital Ad Campaign Targeting Rep. Yoder, Vulnerable Republicans on Morally Bankrupt Congressional Carveout

That was fast! Just weeks after saying that “removing pre-existing conditions is a non-starter for him,” Rep. Kevin Yoder is now considering a House Republican healthcare repeal bill that would do just that. The House Republicans’ latest bill features a Congressional carveout, which would remove protections for people with pre-existing conditions unless, of course, you are a member of Congress like Kevin Yoder.

“Rep. Kevin Yoder should stand by his word and oppose any bill that removes protections for those with pre-existing conditions,” said DCCC spokeswoman, Rachel Irwin. “One has to wonder if Kevin Yoder’s change of heart is because of the cushy, carve-out deal that exempts Yoder and his staff from the worst aspects of this bill. This is another cowardly move from Rep. Kevin Yoder who continues to put his own interests ahead of his constituents.”

While the previous version of the Republican repeal bill was both devastating to hardworking families and unpopular, this new version goes much farther in attacking hardworking families, people over 50 years old, and those with preexisting conditions. To make matters worse, it breaks the concrete promise that Rep. Kevin Yoder has made to his constituents with preexisting conditions.
