Rep. Peltola Leads Legislation To Support Alaska Fish

Congresswoman Peltola continues to deliver for Alaska and make supporting fish a top priority, introducing two bills yesterday to reduce bycatch and limit bottom trawling.

Growing up along the Kuskokwim river and starting to fish commercially with her father at age six, Peltola knows firsthand that it’s harder than ever for subsistence fishing families to put food on the table and for commercial fishermen to make a living. That’s why she has a proven record of supporting Alaska’s fishing families in Congress by investing in Alaska fisheries, supporting revisions to laws that help minimize trawl bycatch, and working across the aisle to prevent foreign trawlers.

Peltola’s efforts have already helped reduce bycatch by 50%.

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Congresswoman Peltola’s pro-fish record speaks for itself; from day one, she has put Alaska’s fishing families first, delivered real results to support fish, and preserved Alaska’s way of life and economy.”
