Rep. Steve Chabot Votes to Shut Down the Government

As the House passed a bipartisan agreement to fund the government, vulnerable Republican Steve Chabot voted to tank the U.S. economy

Today, Rep. Steve Chabot joined his Washington party bosses and voted to shut down the government, which would have thrown the economy into chaos as it rebounds from the pandemic.

If Chabot had it his way, the economy would tank, Ohioans who are employed by the federal government would be furloughed without pay, our brave men and women in uniform would be forced to continuing doing their jobs without pay, and Ohioans who depend on federal benefits would be left twisting in the wind. Instead of doing his job, Steve Chabot chose to blindly follow his Washington party bosses’ lead and play political games with the basic functions of the United States government.

“Steve Chabot’s reckless vote to shut down the government shows that he cares more about scoring political points than doing his job of governing,” said DCCC spokesperson Abel Iraola. “Let’s be clear: Steve Chabot voted today to tank the U.S. economy in the middle of a pandemic, and voters in Ohio’s First District will not forget that.”
