Repeal and Ripoff: House Republicans move to eliminate protections for preexisting conditions

**Similar releases went to Republican districts across the country**

The reckless House Republican healthcare repeal bill that failed last month in the House of Representatives is back and Republicans have managed to make it worse by effectively eliminating protections for Americans with preexisting conditions.

In Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, 300,600 residents have a pre-existing condition. That’s 53% of residents under 65. According to experts a 40-year-old individual with Asthma could be hit with a $4,340 premium surcharge per year. Diabetes without complication could cost a 40-year-old $5,600. A 40-year-old woman who has completed a pregnancy with minor complications – or even none at all – could see an astounding $17,320 premium surcharge.

Representative Pat Meehan’s constituents deserve to know: Will Meehan protect Americans with pre-existing conditions?

“Americans should not be forced to pay more for health insurance because of a pre-existing condition or simply because they are a woman,” said DCCC Spokesman Evan Lukaske. “Representative Meehan needs to oppose this latest Republican attempt to tear coverage away from millions or be prepared to explain to 300,600 constituents and their families why he believes they should pay thousands more for their health insurance.”

Keep in mind, the latest Republican bill still kicks millions off their health insurance, raises healthcare premiums, and imposes an unfair age tax on older Americans. Now, Republicans are proposing an amendment that will allow states to eliminate the Affordable Care Act’s community rating requirement, which would then allow insurers to charge Americans more for their health insurance if they have a pre-existing condition or even just for being a woman.
