| A devastating new report finds that Republicans’ Big, Ugly Law could lead to over 1,000 additional deaths every single year — directly tied to the draconian Medicaid cuts voted on by so-called moderate House Republicans to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
And that’s the best case scenario. The report warns that in a worst-case projection, the death toll could double.
It doesn’t stop there: the law could also trigger nearly 100,000 additional hospitalizations each year and force up to 1.6 million Americans to delay care they urgently need.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 17 million Americans could lose access to their health care as a result of the Big, Ugly Law. Hospitals are at risk of closing, nursing homes could shut down, and health care costs will rise for millions of more people.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The extreme, reckless, and cruel GOP Tax Scam will strip millions of Americans of their health care coverage — and people could die — all to hand billionaires a tax break. Shame on the so-called Republican moderates for voting for the Big, Ugly Law after spending months falsely promising they wouldn’t touch Medicaid.” |
