| Vulnerable Republican Ryan Mackenzie is trying to paper over his record of voting for massive cuts to health care and higher premiums by pretending to support an extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits.
There’s just one problem: recently unearthed audio reveals that Mackenzie has spent more than a decade opposing the ACA and even working to undercut the program in Pennsylvania.
Heartland Signal reports that during his time in the state legislature, Mackenzie called the ACA “infringements upon our rights,” and said the health care program had turned “out to be more of a disaster than I think anybody ever imagined.”
Mackenzie also reportedly “bragged about opposing setting up a state exchange” – admitting that he was actively working as a state legislator to prevent Pennsylvanians from being able to access affordable health care.

Heartland Signal: Ryan Mackenzie flip-flops on ACA, which he once called ‘an infringement upon our rights’
By Richard Eberwein | 12/22/25
- U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA) was one of four Republicans to sign a discharge petition to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) premium tax credits. But the swing-district lawmaker has a decade-long history of opposition to both the program and health care expansion in Pennsylvania.
- In actuality, Mackenzie has vocally and vehemently opposed the ACA since his early years as a Pennsylvania state representative.
- During a town hall event in 2013, Mackenzie referred to the ACA as an “infringement upon our rights.” At the time, Mackenzie was serving his first term in the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives, and he also bragged about opposing setting up a state exchange and expanding Medicaid.
- “Other things that I look forward to talking about are some of the things that I see coming down the pike are things that are real infringements upon our rights,” Mackenzie said. “Things like Obamacare, I was at a seminar earlier today, and this is turning out to be more of a disaster than I think anybody could imagine.”
