| Major new reporting from The Virginian-Pilot this week revealed that hundreds of jobs have been eliminated from the Hampton VA Medical Center under Congresswoman Jen Kiggans’ watch.
Federal data analyzed by the Pilot shows that “more vacant positions were eliminated at the Hampton VA Medical Center between November and January than at any other Veterans Affairs facility in the country.”
The president of the local chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the union that represents Hampton VA workers, told the Pilot: “I’m horrified by the positions they removed off the org chart. I’m shocked and horrified… I can’t believe the audacity to do that at a hospital that has one of the fastest growing veteran populations in the country, and at a hospital that’s already understaffed before you did that.”
When asked about these devastating job cuts, the Pilot reports that Kiggans “said in a statement that the positions eliminated were previously identified by the facility,’ but did not elaborate on that distinction.”
DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Jen Kiggans has supported and enabled devastating cuts to the VA that are leaving Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach veterans with reduced access to critical care. She has completely betrayed her own community.”
