Newly released documents from former President Trump’s acting Deputy Attorney General show the latest evidence that Trump pressured top Department of Justice officials to declare the 2020 election “corrupt” in order to help extremist Republicans in Congress try to overturn the election results.
Despite the Department of Justice finding no evidence of widespread voter fraud and top security officials calling the 2020 election the “most secure in American history,” Trump trusted his Republican allies in Congress, including vulnerable Rep. Scott Perry, to back his dangerous efforts to overturn the election.
“Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen,” Trump allegedly told top DOJ officials.
“The House GOP caucus has proven that they prioritize their own power over our democracy,” said DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney. “House Republicans’ embrace of the Big Lie has already led to a violent attack on our Capitol, and these notes are the latest evidence that Republicans cannot be trusted to govern responsibly.”
