Today, Representatives Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks joined their Washington party bosses and voted to shut down the government, which would throw the economy into chaos as it rebounds from the pandemic.
If Reps. Hinson and Miller-Meeks had their way, the economy would tank, Iowans who are employed by the federal government would be furloughed without pay, our brave men and women in uniform would be forced to continuing doing their jobs without pay, and Iowans who depend on federal benefits would be left twisting in the wind. Instead of doing their job, Hinson and Miller-Meeks chose to blindly follow their Washington party bosses’ lead and play political games with the basic functions of the United States government.
“Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ reckless vote to shut down the government shows they care more about scoring political points than doing their job of governing,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Let’s be clear: Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted today to tank the U.S. economy in the middle of a pandemic, and voters in Iowa will not forget that.”
