Reps. Carlos Giménez and María Elvira Salazar Voted No, Took the Dough on Key Infrastructure and Jobs Investments

Voters in South Florida deserve better than hypocrites who vote against their own community

Vulnerable Republican Reps. Carlos Giménez and María Elvira Salazar once again voted no and took the dough by voting against the landmark INVEST Act, which contains critical investments in infrastructure and job creation, including millions directly for Giménez and Salazar’s districts at their own request.

Take a look at where the investments that Giménez and Salazar voted against would be headed:

  • $8,800,000 for Roadway Improvements Project in Cutler Bay

  • $4,330,000 for City of South Miami Pedestrian Bridge South

  • $4,200,000 for Card Sound Bridge Replacement Planning and Design Project

  • $2,392,000 for Miami River Greenway – Curtis Park East

  • $2,000,000 for PortMiami Shore Power Pilot Program

  • $1,000,000 for North Bay Village 79th Street Complete Streets Project
  • $999,205 for Commodore Trail Missing Link

When Giménez and Salazar are home in Miami during this recess, don’t be surprised if they spend time touting the very investments they just voted against. Just like when they voted against direct relief funds for their community in the American Rescue Plan, Giménez and Salazar voted no, but were all too happy to take the dough.

“Carlos Giménez and María Elvira Salazar are so out-of-touch with their districts that they repeatedly vote against needed investments in their community in an attempt to score cheap political points,” said DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola. “Families in South Florida have Democrats to thank for the good-paying jobs and much-needed infrastructure investments headed their way — but not Carlos Giménez and María Elvira Salazar, who stood against them when it counted.”
