Reps. Miller-Meeks and Hinson are Complicit in Republicans’ Crusade to End Access to Legal Abortion in America

Miller-Meeks and Hinson are out of step with nearly 60% of percent of Iowans who say abortion should be legal in most or all cases

Access to safe, legal abortion in America took a devastating blow last night with POLITICO reporting on a leaked draft Supreme Court majority opinion that would strike down Roe v. Wade and open the door for 26 states including Iowa to immediately move to ban the right to abortion. Republicans Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Ashley Hinson are complicit in this all-out assault on women’s freedoms.

Iowans need to know their dangerous record on women’s reproductive freedom and health care:

  • In July, Miller-Meeks and Hinson signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, despite the fact that the longstanding decision is supported by 77% of the American people.

  • In September, when the House of Representatives brought the Women’s Health Protection Act to the floor to protect reproductive freedoms and codify Roe into law, Miller-Meeks and Hinson followed Washington party leaders and voted “NO.”

  • Miller-Meeks has also sponsored a resolution in the Iowa Senate proposing a constitutional amendment  denying the right to an abortion – indicating she could support a nationwide ban on abortions.

Make no mistake – access to abortion is on the line this November and hinges on control of Congress. Just hours before the draft Supreme Court opinion was leaked, the Washington Post reported that congressional Republicans are working on a “push for a strict nationwide ban on the procedure if Republicans retake power in Washington.

DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn:
“The stakes in this election could not be higher: re-electing Reps. Hinson and Miller-Meeks will put House Republicans one step closer to achieving their decades-long dream of ripping away women’s freedom to make their own decisions about their bodies.”
