Republican Bo Hines’s shameless hypocrisy was on full display last night.
After the news that the FBI searched Donald Trump’s Florida home Mar-a-Lago, suddenly Hines changed his tune on backing law enforcement, saying: “This outrageous abuse of government power in an effort to intimidate political opponents is truly un-American!”
The manufactured outrage is a complete flip flop from Bo Hines’s previous assertion that Democrats were the ones “declaring war” on law enforcement, and the irony won’t be lost on North Carolinians. As National Journal put it: “Republican incumbents appeared to become the party of ‘defund the police’ in a matter of hours.”
Instead of letting law enforcement do its job, Republicans immediately leapt to spread baseless conspiracy theories and attack the integrity of the FBI. Last night made clear: Trump’s Republican Party has no conviction that won’t collapse like a house of cards the second it serves them politically.
“Bo Hines will do or say literally anything if he thinks it will help his self-absorbed quest for political power,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “If Bo Hines really respected the law, he would let law enforcement do their work instead of spreading baseless conspiracy theories and attacking the integrity of the FBI.” |
