Republican Eli Crane’s shameless hypocrisy was on full display last night.
After the news that the FBI searched Donald Trump’s Florida home Mar-a-Lago, suddenly Eli changed his tune on backing law enforcement, saying, “I was really disappointed to see what happened today with the FBI raid of President Trump’s house … the police and law enforcement gets weaponized against political enemies.”
The manufactured outrage is a complete flip flop from Eli Crane’s previous assertion that “it’s imperative that we support and defend the heroes of Law Enforcement,” and the irony won’t be lost on Arizonans. As National Journal put it: “Republican incumbents appeared to become the party of ‘defund the police’ in a matter of hours.”
Instead of letting law enforcement do its job, Republicans immediately leapt to spread baseless conspiracy theories and attack the integrity of the FBI. Last night made clear: Trump’s Republican Party has no conviction that won’t collapse like a house of cards the second it serves them politically.
“Eli Crane is so extreme that he attacked law enforcement the second it served him politically,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “If Eli Crane really respected the law, he would let law enforcement do their work instead of spreading baseless conspiracy theories and attacking the integrity of the FBI.”
