Republican Mauro Garza’s Campaign in TX-15 Slammed for Breaking Campaign Finance Law

Garza’s campaign is off to an amateur start as the FEC fines him $1,878 for violations

Republican Mauro Garza has been running in TX-15 for barely more than a week, and he’s already off to an amateur start.

The FEC recently made public that they fined Mauro Garza $1,878 for violating campaign finance law by failing to file a 12-day pre-general report in October of 2020 for his last failed congressional campaign. As Garza gears up for his primary in TX-15, his failure to follow campaign finance laws raises some ethical questions that will follow him over the next several months.

The battle for who will be the Republican nominee in TX-15 has only just begun, but South Texans will find that the candidates running already leave much to be desired. Between Monica De La Cruz, who has pushed misinformation about COVID-19 and spread conspiracies about the 2020 election, and Mauro Garza, who hid information about his campaign donors in violation of campaign finance law, Texas Republicans have presented voters in TX-15 with losing choices only.

“Mauro Garza introduced himself to TX-15 voters less than ten days ago, and he already has to answer for his record of breaking campaign finance law,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “If the best Texas Republicans have to offer voters in TX-15 are two failed congressional candidates who have to lie and cheat to get ahead, they’re in trouble in 2022.”
