Republican Monica De La Cruz in TX-15 Endorsed by Insurrectionist

Wisconsin Republican Derrick Van Orden, who was at the Capitol during the Jan. 6th insurrection, endorses De La Cruz

It’s not exactly the endorsement anyone is angling for. Republican candidate and “Big Lie” promoter Monica De La Cruz in TX-15 was endorsed and has been repeatedly praised by fellow top NRCC recruit Derrick Van Orden, who is under fire for allegedly using campaign funds to attend the violent attack on our Capitol on January 6th.

Like Monica De La Cruz, Derrick Van Orden criticized the Democratic COVID-19 relief bill that provided a lifeline to families and small businesses across South Texas, and has repeatedly pushed the conspiracy theory that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. And like De La Cruz, serious concerns have been raised about Van Orden’s character — he has a deeply disturbing history of misogynistic and anti-women remarks, including bragging about sexually harassing two young female officers in his book, and has a history of making antisemitic comments.

With backers like Derrick Van Orden, Monica De La Cruz has scrambled to align herself with the most radical, extreme wing of the Republican Party — and risks undermining her scandal-plagued campaign even further.

“Birds of a feather flock together, and it’s no coincidence that Monica De La Cruz is aligning herself with someone who attended the violent January 6 attack on our Capitol,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “South Texans deserve a member of Congress who answers to the hard-working families across the district, not radical insurrectionists.”
