As the Delta variant ravages unvaccinated communities, jeopardizes our economic recovery, and lands more and more Georgians in the hospital every day, Republican politicians Megan Hanson and Jake Evans in GA-06 have refused to join Democrats in battling the deadly pandemic. And as ICU beds fill to capacity in Georgia, they’ve instead chosen to further discourage life-saving vaccinations by coming out against basic vaccine requirements for employees of large businesses.
Essential vaccinations for highly transmissible and deadly diseases, like smallpox and polio, have been required in the United States for decades. But rather than encouraging Georgians to get the FDA-approved, life-saving COVID-19 vaccine, Jake Evans and Megan Hanson are using their platforms to rage against basic vaccine requirements.
Bottom line: House Democrats are working non-stop to get this pandemic under control and get our economy back on track, while Republican politicians have used their platforms to spread disinformation, discourage vaccinations, ban basic public health measures like wearing masks, and prolong the pandemic that has claimed the lives of more than 650,000 Americans.
“When Jake Evans and Megan Hanson had the chance to join Democrats in tackling this deadly disease and keeping Georgians safe, they chose instead to oppose basic public health measures,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “It’s morally bankrupt and utterly indefensible. No mincing words here: Jake Evans and Megan Hanson are prolonging this pandemic.”
