Republicans Are Freaking Out Over Inflation Because They Know It’ll Lose Them the Midterms

Faced with an avalanche of headlines all summer that have covered rising costs with no relief in sight, Republicans are starting to realize what the American people have been trying to tell them all year: Voters expect lower costs – and will hold House Republicans accountable for their broken promise and failure to deliver.

Recent reporting from Axios reveals that Republicans are “increasingly anxious” as they “fret” about how inflation will cost them in the midterms. Republicans on Capitol Hill were reported as being “alarmed by internal polls and focus groups showing persistent — and increasing — concerns about prices.”

It’s not just the issue of inflation that is troubling for Republicans, it’s the entire economy. The Wall Street Journal best summed up the state of affairs that’s driving voter discontent and Republican fears over losing the midterms:

“Wealthy Americans are helping keep swaths of the economy in good stead as they continue to buy first-class plane tickets and high-end sneakers, while more Americans are clipping coupons and cutting back on nonessentials.”

DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Republicans promised the American people that they’d see lower costs on ‘Day One’. Instead, voters are living in an inflation nation where the GOP refuses to lift a finger to improve the lives of working families while bending backwards to give tax breaks to the wealthiest few. Their broken promises to voters will be why they lose the House Majority in 2026.”
