REPUBLICANS DID THAT: Millions of Americans Go Uninsured Due to Expiration of ACA Tax Credits

KFF poll finds majority of voters blame GOP for high costs

The refusal by House Republicans to extend the enhanced ACA tax credits has triggered a sharp rise in premiums, leaving families with impossible choices. According to new reports, a staggering majority of ACA enrollees are now cutting back on food, utilities, and other essentials just to afford their monthly premiums.

As premiums skyrocket, the number of uninsured Americans is climbing for the first time in years, erasing a decade of progress in national health coverage.

The political ramifications are becoming clear as we head into the midterm elections. A new poll from the nonpartisan KFF found 54% of voters are blaming Republicans in Congress for rising costs, including health care. About three-fourths of ACA enrollees surveyed said the cost of health care will have an impact on their decision to vote – and who they will vote for.

As MS NOW reports, health care costs have emerged as the “defining issue” of this election cycle. While Democrats moved to protect families by proposing a three-year extension of the tax credits, Republican obstruction allowed those protections to lapse.

“The findings arrive as health care costs have emerged as a defining issue heading into the midterm elections—one that Democrats are betting will drive voters to the polls,” MS NOW notes. For millions of Americans, the choice between a doctor’s visit and a meal is no longer a hypothetical – it is a daily reality that will be answered at the ballot box.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Vulnerable House Republicans bent the knee to Donald Trump and failed to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Voters will remember in November.”
