Republicans Re-Try Another Rebrand Of Their Big, Ugly Law

Republicans are limping into the start of September with a toxic mix of brutal polling, down-ballot defeats, and a steady drumbeat of bad headlines related to their Big, Ugly Law.

Now, the White House is scrambling to help Congressional Republicans rebrand their “signature” piece of legislation because they know it’s a political disaster.

One House Republican, speaking anonymously to Politico, said the quiet part out loud on the meeting with the White House this morning: “There seemed to be some recognition that we’re in trouble.”

Mike Johnson agreed last week, admitting that he is “not surprised” by the fact that the Big, Ugly Law is the least popular piece of legislation since at least 1990. (A recent study from Pew Research found just 32 percent of voters approved of the GOP Tax Scam.)

The re-brand is not new. For weeks, if not months, Republicans have been desperately attempting to find a way to talk about the Big, Ugly Law which has led to mass protests and jeers from their constituents back home.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“The so-called rebrand of the Big, Ugly Law is an admission that the GOP’s signature legislative ‘achievement’ is a toxic failure. Only Republicans seem surprised that ripping away health care and gutting rural hospitals just to hand billionaires a massive tax break is completely out of step with what the American people want.”
