Republicans Said Rural Health Care Services Wouldn’t Shut Down. Why Does It Keep Happening?

“It feels like they don’t know that we exist at this end of the state.”

As House Republicans celebrate a Tax Day windfall for mega-corporations and their billionaire donors, patients in rural Nebraska are reeling over the closure of the dialysis unit at Chadron Hospital, which provided life-sustaining care for the local community.

New reporting from KFF documents the unit’s closure, the devastating consequences for its patients, and the failures of Republicans in power to support these critical services.

The dialysis center lost $1 million a year due to low reimbursement rates. House Republicans slashed billions from Medicaid in their Big Ugly Bill.

DCCC Spokesperson Liam Buckley:
“House Republicans slashed billions from hospitals in rural America, leaving clinics and patients out to dry. The Big, Ugly Bill has been devastating for these communities, and rural Americans deserve better than House Republicans’ cruel agenda.”
