“Residency Debate Surrounds Republican Congressional Nominee Marty O’Donnell in Nevada” [Las Vegas Sun]

O’Donnell disparaged Las Vegas as somewhere he’d “never just choose to live out of the blue,” said California is his “favorite place”

Marty O’Donnell said it himself: he doesn’t know much about Southern Nevada.

Out-Of-Touch O’Donnell admitted that he still needs to “learn” more about NV-03, a place he disparaged as somewhere he’d “never just choose to live out of the blue.” O’Donnell seems to prefer California, which he’s called “his favorite place,” a “sort of heavenly paradise,” and a “little strip of heaven.

O’Donnell has regularly escaped to his $4.1 million ocean-side residence while running for office in Southern Nevada:

O’Donnell’s lack of understanding of NV-03 is palpable – he made headlines for saying young people don’t need “jobs” or “opportunities” at the same time Nevada is facing a job crisis. O’Donnell has also said Trump’s haphazard tariff regime is not “an issue,” even though they’re contributing to a sharp decline in Southern Nevada tourism, fewer shifts, and fewer tips.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Marty O’Donnell is an out-of-touch carpetbagger who is trying to buy himself a seat in Congress. While O’Donnell publicly trashes Southern Nevada, voters know Susie Lee has called Southern Nevada home for more than three decades and is a longtime champion for communities across the district.”

Las Vegas Sun: Residency debate surrounds Republican congressional nominee Marty O’Donnell in Nevada

  • Marty O’Donnell, the Republican nominee for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, moved to the state five years ago for his grandchildren.
  • “I would probably never just choose to live in Las Vegas out of the blue,” he said on an episode of his podcast, “The Marty O’Donnell Show.”
  • Democrats say O’Donnell hasn’t lived here long enough to understand the community’s needs. Incumbent Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev., by contrast, has called Las Vegas home for 33 years.
  • “It feels incredibly out of touch and particularly hypocritical when the Nevada GOP has often harped on Nevada Democrats campaigning with Californians, when their Republican nominee for CD3 is living in a multimillion dollar home in Southern California,” said Molly Forgey, a Las Vegas-based Democratic strategist.
  • Democrats say O’Donnell — a composer known for his work on video games such as “Halo” — spends too much time at a second home in California to be considered a bona fide Nevadan.
