Holding: “If I don’t have a district to run in, that kind of forecloses running.”
The DCCC is officially putting Congressman George Holding (NC-02-For Now) on retirement watch.
Holding’s fundraising of late has been lousy, to say the least. Here’s what the Raleigh News & Observer reported last week after Congressman Holding barely scraped together $150,000 in the third quarter, one of the lowest totals of any Member of Congress facing a competitive re-election bid:
“Rep. George Holding, a Republican from Raleigh, represents more than 700,000 North Carolinians in Congress in District 2. But in the last three months, only one of those residents has contributed to his 2020 reelection campaign, according to new campaign finance reports.
And with the possibility of new lines for North Carolina congressional districts rising, Congressman Holding himself isn’t sounding too optimistic about his future in Washington, D.C. Here’s what Holding told Politico on Monday:
“‘I would certainly look at the district that’s available and figure out if I’m a good fit for that district. I’m not going to change my voting pattern or political philosophies to fit a district,’” Holding said Monday night. ‘If I don’t have a district to run in, that kind of forecloses running.’”
Not exactly sounding confident there, Congressman.
That’s why today the DCCC is adding Congressman George Holding to its “2020 Republican Retirement Watch List.”
“After many long years of service to the wealthy special interests who fund his campaigns, Congressman Holding sounds ready to ride off into the sunset and that’s why we’re adding him to our Republican Retirement Watch List,” DCCC spokesman Avery Jaffe said. “While we await his decision, we expect Congressman Holding to continue his time-honored tradition of voting to raise prescription drug costs, giving handouts to his billionaire donors and repeatedly voting to strip away health care from thousands of North Carolinians.”
The list now stands as follows:
AK-AL Don Young
AZ-06 David Schweikert
CA-50 Duncan Hunter
