This week, Rob Mercuri reaffirmed his full allegiance to the far-right wing of the Republican party by fundraising with Speaker Mike Johnson.
While Johnson has “struggled to replicate [former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s] fundraising prowess,” the fundraiser puts Mercuri on the hook for Mike Johnson’s extreme platform that includes a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the woman.
Similarly to Johnson, Mercuri has a dangerous anti-abortion agenda. In the state legislature, Mercuri co-sponsored a near total abortion ban, without exceptions for rape or incest. The bill would punish doctors with up to seven years in prison. He also voted for a constitutional amendment that would ban the right to an abortion, something the ACLU said would “threaten the fundamental rights of every Pennsylvanian.”
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“As long as the checks keep coming, Rob Mercuri is happy to embrace Mike Johnson’s dangerous far-right agenda at the expense of Western Pennsylvanians. Voters in PA-17 deserve a representative who will fight for them, not join MAGA extremists in their efforts to outlaw abortion nationwide.”
