Rob Wittman Is More Vulnerable Than Ever

Virginia voters turned out to make their voices heard and reject Republicans’ unprecedented mid-decade gerrymandering scheme.

The results also serve as a blistering rebuke of career politician Rob Wittman and House Republicans’ cost-spiking, health care slashing record.

One thing that’s clear from the results: After nearly two decades in Washington, Congressman Wittman has never been more vulnerable.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“After nearly two decades in Congress, career politician Rob Wittman has come to represent everything that’s wrong with a broken and corrupt Washington. Wittman enriched himself in office by trading millions in stocks and voting to give himself a tax break on his beach mansion – all while voting to unleash devastating health care cuts and skyrocketing costs on his own community. Wittman doesn’t work for Virginians, he works for himself and his D.C. party bosses. Virginians are tired of being sold out by Wittman and are ready to send him into retirement in November.”

CATCH UP QUICK ON WHY WITTMAN IS MORE VULNERABLE THAN EVER:
  • Wittman has used his perch in Washington to benefit himself – including voting to slash taxes on his triple decker beach house in the Outer Banks. bombshell report earlier this year revealed that Wittman “could personally save up to an eyewatering $60,000 a year – thanks to his eight-bedroom beach rental.” According to an analysis from a non-partisan organization, “his estimated tax savings were the highest of all lawmakers who voted for the bill.”
  • Wittman played the stock market while voting in Washington. Wittman reportedly “traded $2.56 million in stocks between 2015 and 2023,” and his net worth has “more than tripled” while serving in Congress.
  • Wittman has unleashed a health care and affordability crisis on Virginia. Wittman signed onto a letter that falsely claimed he would protect Medicaid – only to turn around and vote for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Wittman’s vote is the reason why three health clinics in Virginia have already closed their doors, and it’s the reason why health care premiums are skyrocketing.
  • Wittman has become just another corrupt career politician. Instead of working to address rising health care costs he created, Wittman was “caught fundraising at [a] swanky steakhouse” just hours before the government shut down.
