Rod Blum Compares Himself to Donald Trump in Interview (AUDIO)

Congressman Rod Blum doubled down on Trump mania, and the timing couldn’t be better with the first GOP primary debate tonight. It appears that Blum’s disastrous week just got even worse.

Here’s what d Blum had to say:

“Yeah I think Trump is, I’m not a political expert or a polling expert, but it seems to me that he’s probably getting a lot of support from folks that are tired of this business. Politics as usual, they’re tired of it. And they want to have straight talking candidates, straight talking elected officials, who are actually going to get things done instead of always just talking about things, getting things done. And I think business people, like myself, that’s what we’ve had a career of doing is getting things done, solving problems.”

Interesting. Rod Blum appears to compare himself to the Trump, as well as praise him for being a “straight” talker. Which aspects of his straight talk does he admire? Is it his vile attacks on Senator McCain’s military service? Or was it calling Mexicans rapists?

“Ahead of the Republican primary debate Congressman Rod Blum apparently thought it was a good idea to compare himself to Donald Trump,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “Iowans don’t need any more evidence that Blum is on the fringes of his own party, but that sure didn’t stop him from driving the point home.”

BACKGROUND

Blum Said Donald Trump’s Offensive Comments About Immigrants “Tapp[ed] Into A Pride In The Country, Patriotism.” “Trump is polling reasonably well … I just think, I listen to the grass roots a lot and the activists a lot and I think he’s tapping in to the frustration that people have with Washington DC, with career politicians, with politicians saying one thing and doing another. And I think he’s also tapping into a pride in the country, patriotism, saying you know, ‘We don’t negotiate trade deals well. We should build that fence along the border. We should secure the border, and if I’m president – ’ You know it just gives people that sense of pride again.” [KWWL, 5:00, 7/05/15]

Blum Doubled Down On His Support For Trump. “Yeah I think Trump is, I’m not a political expert or a polling expert, but it seems to me that he’s probably getting a lot of support from folks that are tired of this business.
