You may have noticed that yesterday Rep. Peter Roskam took a bizarre victory lap, claiming a “win” for Illinois taxpayers who stood in line to prepay their 2017 property taxes.
Here is what you need to know:
- These families – well the ones who could afford to – stood in line in record numbers to prepay their property taxes because they were worried about their taxes going up after Congress passed the GOP Tax Scam.
- That’s because the GOP Tax Scam gutted the State and Local Tax Deduction, which nearly half of Roskam’s own constituents claimed for about $5 billion in federal tax relief.
- Roskam didn’t just vote for this policy, but was a “principal architect” of the bill.
- Starting next year, prepay or not, Illinois families are going to be on the hook.
