Republican Study Committee Chair Jim Banks is endorsing Kevin McCarthy’s vow to use the necessary raising of the debt limit to leverage House Republicans’ plan to cut Social Security and Medicare. Banks called the debt ceiling a “major leverage point” for House Republicans.
REMINDER: The Republican Study Committee represents nearly 75% of the House Republican Conference and has already put forward a legislative plan to raise the eligibility age for Social Security.
Now that the RSC and numerous GOP leaders are endorsing Republican plans to hold the US economy hostage in order to force the cuts to Medicare and Social Security their MAGA caucus wants, every member of Congress and Republican candidate in a swing district must tell voters whether or not they endorse this strategy.
DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“The House GOP’s closing argument to American voters is a vow to default the US economy and gut Social Security if they don’t get the cuts they want to programs seniors rely on. Voters are going to reject being robbed of a more certain economic future by extremist House Republicans.”
