Rural Americans Are Losing Health Care Coverage Thanks to Republicans

“When the GOP slashed funding for federal health insurance assistance, rural residents were disproportionately hit.” – Daily Yonder

The Daily Yonder reports“rural residents in states that participate in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace are losing health insurance coverage at higher rates than their urban and suburban counterparts.”

Since Republicans gutted Medicaid in their Big, Ugly Bill and let critical health care tax credits expire, health care premiums have increased exponentially and millions of Americans have been left without health care — with rural Americans being impacted disproportionately.

Additionally, reports show 27% of nonmetropolitan counties across the country have seen average monthly premium increases of up to $381. The added financial burden comes at a time when the rural health care system is in danger of collapsing. Republicans’ (woefully underfunded) “rural health fund” that they’ve tried to hide behind is now pushing many hospitals to cut services altogether.

DCCC Spokesperson Bridget Gonzalez:
“Republicans’ horrible policies have hit America’s rural communities hard, leaving hardworking families facing higher premiums and the loss of health care coverage, while also dealing with a decimated rural health care system. Republicans cannot hide the reality that they have left rural communities behind.”
