As Russians Help Trump, DCCC Once Again Urges NRCC Not To Use Hacked and Stolen Material

NRCC Chair Tom Emmer Has Refused Multiple Offers To Sign Commonsense Pledge

As top intelligence officials warn that the Russian government is preparing to interfere in the 2020 election to boost President Trump, the DCCC once again urged the NRCC to join it in pledging not to use hacked materials in congressional races.

CNN:

Last week’s briefing, led by election security official Shelby Pierson and first reported by The New York Times, addressed the overall picture of Russia’s efforts, including hacking, weaponizing social media and attacks on election infrastructure, one of the sources said.

The briefers said Russia does favor Trump, but that helping Trump wasn’t the only thing they were trying to do as it was also designed to raise questions about the integrity of the elections process, the source added.

Last April, DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos pledged that the DCCC will not use hacked materials against Republicans in the 2020 campaign. NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer has repeatedly refused to do so.

Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Robyn Patterson

“The NRCC is laying out the welcome mat for foreign adversaries looking to interfere in our elections. Unless Chairman Emmer pledges not to use hacked information, he’s giving foreign adversaries exactly what they want: an open invitation to damage the integrity of our elections.”
