Ryan Mackenzie Enables Reckless Tariffs Even As They Drive Up Steel and Aluminum Costs

CEO of U.S. Metal Powders in Carbon County says the Mackenzie-backed tariffs are jacking up costs and aiding foreign adversaries

Ryan Mackenzie’s support for sweeping tariffs is causing economic pain for manufacturers and consumers in Carbon County.

The CEO of U.S. Metal Powders in Palmerton criticized the up to 50 percent tariff on steel and aluminum, saying that the tariffs have driven up aluminum prices in the U.S. from about $1.25 to $1.80 “in a matter of a few months” and that the tariffs are boosting foreign competitors because customers are “buying cheap aluminum in another region.” Because of the tariffs, “[a subsidiary of] the company has had to raise its prices about 25% to compensate.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Mackenzie has “defended the tariffs.” He has done nothing during his seven months in Congress to push back as the sweeping and chaotic tariffs are raising costs for Pennsylvania consumers.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Ryan Mackenzie campaigned on a promise to lower costs, but has instead fully embraced chaotic tariffs that are jacking up prices for consumers and manufacturers. It’s clear Mackenzie is more interested in following marching orders from his D.C. party bosses than he is in actually fighting for Pennsylvanians.”
