Ryan Mackenzie Has Spent Years Attacking the Affordable Care Act. Now It’s Catching Up to Him.

Mackenzie admits to the Associated Press that he is powerless to stop health care costs from skyrocketing

Ryan Mackenzie has never been a fan of the Affordable Care Act.

With less than a month until ACA tax credits expire, vulnerable House Republicans like Mackenzie are hypocritically making half-hearted statements and pretending they want to save the ACA because they know the GOP health care crisis will cost them their jobs.

When asked by the Associated Press about the expiring tax credits and the 20,000 people in his district who will face skyrocketing health care costs next year due to Republican inaction, Mackenzie couldn’t help himself and derisively called the Affordable Care Act a “broken system.”

Mackenzie even told the Associated Press that he is entirely beholden to Speaker Johnson and his party bosses, admitting that he can’t and won’t do anything to force action on the issue because, in his own words, “I am not the speaker, I don’t set the calendar or the agenda. I’m not the leader, I can’t call up bills.”

Mackenzie is a career politician who has spent his entire adult life in elected office, but openly admits he is ineffective and unwilling to help Lehigh Valley families. The irony is that Mackenzie could in fact force a vote if he joined 214 House Democrats in backing a discharge petition that would extend the ACA tax credits for three years – but he refuses to do so.

Mackenzie has no real interest in saving the tax credits and no amount of phony attempts to rewrite his own record will change that. The truth is Mackenzie and House Republicans have no plan to address their health care crisis.

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“Vulnerable Republicans like Ryan Mackenzie have spent years attacking the ACA and doing nothing to make health care more affordable. Now they’ve come to the realization that voters will hold them accountable for spiking their costs and ripping away their care, but no amount of phony rhetoric or lies will change that. The DCCC will not let so-called Republican moderates like Mackenzie trick voters after refusing to do a single thing to address the health care crisis they created.”
