Last week, far-right extremist Ryan Mackenzie voted against legislation that would protect seniors from financial exploitation in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
By refusing to support Pennsylvania seniors, Mackenzie is already taking a page out of extremist Speaker Mike Johnson’s playbook. Johnson’s Republican Study Committee calls for raising the eligibility age for Social Security recipients, blocking prescription drug pricing reforms, and putting together special commissions to fundamentally change critical government programs like Medicare.
This is not the first time that Mackenzie – already adopting Speaker Johnson’s platform after the House leader came to stump for him in May – has put his dangerous agenda ahead of Pennsylvanians. On the campaign trail, he has said that he is “a fan of zero-based budgeting,” which, if implemented at the federal level, would have devastating consequences for seniors. Zero-based budgeting is “a method of budgeting in which all expenses must be justified for each new period,” putting Medicare and Social Security on the chopping block every single year.
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“Rather than support Pennsylvania seniors, Ryan Mackenzie continues to put the needs of his political backers first. Mackenzie is no better than Mike Johnson and the other MAGA extremists in the House who are hell bent on gutting seniors’ hard earned benefits in exchange for a trillion dollar tax giveaway for the ultrawealthy.”
