Today, extremist Republican Sandy Smith in NC-01 proudly touted her endorsement from the National Right to Life political action group. This radical group knows they have an ally in Smith, who has called for an extreme nationwide ban on all abortions with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
National Right to Life has been working for decades to rip reproductive rights away from millions of Americans. The work of this group helped overturn Roe v. Wade, which forced an Ohio 10-year-old to travel to Indiana to receive an abortion. The group’s lawyer, Jim Bopp, even claimed the young girl may see “the benefit of having the child,” as she would be forced to do under the group’s model legislation.
“National Right to Life endorsed Sandy Smith because they know she would work to enact their dystopian mission: force women and girls to have their rapist’s child, or quite literally let women die rather than get the life-saving care they need,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Sandy Smith is far too extreme for eastern North Carolina, and voters will reject her radical views this November.”
