Sandy Smith (NC-01) Won’t Commit to Accepting Election Results

Republican candidate Sandy Smith in North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, in an interview with Spectrum News, would not say if she’ll accept the 2022 election results – raising alarms about if she will try to overturn the will of the voters if she loses in November.

Here is an excerpt from the deeply troubling interview:

Reporter: “So just to clarify, will you abide by the results in November?”

Smith: “What do you mean by abide? I don’t speak in hypotheticals. Maybe you do. But I don’t.”

Sandy Smith is no stranger to 2020 election denial. She has a long history of promoting the Big Lie – and she was even at the January 6th ‘Stop the Steal’ rally that led to the deadly insurrection attempt at the U.S. Capitol.

“Sandy Smith’s refusal to say if she’ll accept the results of the November election is completely disqualifying,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “She’ll happily throw out votes if they are not in her favor, a chilling prospect for North Carolina voters. She is too dangerous to be in any position of power; democracy is on the line this November.”
