Schweikert Votes Against Equal Pay for Equal Work

Congressman Schweikert stands up for special interests by voting against economic security for Arizona families

Today, in a not-so-surprising move, Congressman Schweikert reinforced the GOP’s war on women by voting against the Paycheck Fairness Act. More than 55 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act, women across the country are still making an average of 80 cents on the dollar compared to men. The Paycheck Fairness Act is a commonsense measure that would help close the persistent wage gap by protecting employees who discuss salary data from retaliation, streamline the enforcement of existing equal pay law, and requiring employers to prove that any pay disparities are job-related and not on the basis of gender. Congressman Schweikert’s vote against giving working women and their families a raise shows that Schweikert will choose special interests over the middle class families no matter what.

“Arizonans have had enough of Congressman Schweikert and Republicans’ disingenuous commitment to family values,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren. “The wage gap isn’t a myth. Too many hardworking women and their families in Arizona are struggling to make ends meet, but Congressman Schweikert chose to vote with his special interests donors instead of fighting for economic security for women across America.”
