Schweikert’s Ethics Violations Dog Him on the Campaign Trail

Rep. David Schweikert’s primary opponent releases new ad highlighting ethics violations

Rep. David Schweikert is facing the toughest re-election effort of his political lifetime in AZ-01, and his primary opponent’s latest ad makes it clear that Schweikert’s 11 ethics violations are going to dog him all the way to November.

During the 2020 election, Schweikert was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine for 11 different ethics violations, which included “misuse of campaign funds for personal purposes” and “an environment where office staffers were pressured to do political work.” Schweikert was also slammed by the House Ethics Committee for his attempts to dodge and delay the investigation, including giving “untruthful testimony” and “self-serving statements” that went beyond “minor memory lapses.”

Elijah Norton, a wealthy self-funder who has Schweikert locked in a bruising primary battle, highlighted these violations in a new ad released yesterdayWith the primary election still six months away, the ad makes clear: Arizonans won’t be forgetting David Schweikert’s ethics violations any time soon.
