GOP Strategist: “Somebody who’s a well-funded candidate could come in to really give him some headaches.”
After a week of bad headlines about his ongoing ethics scandals, roadblocks in Congressman David Schweikert’s path to re-election continue to mount as Arizona Republicans start to publicly speculate about the need for a primary challenge. With Schweikert’s campaign coffers hemorrhaging legal fees and a House Ethics Committee investigation into his potentially illegal behavior still ongoing, who can blame them?
From KTVK’s Politics Unplugged:
DENNIS WELCH: Let’s start with Mr. Schweikert, his campaign, his troubles. I talked to you earlier in the week about that and you think he’s in big trouble.
GOP STRATEGIST: I think we gotta stop putting our head in the sand and address the issue, and that is he needs to raise money and he needs to get in the game quick here. . . there could be a challenge from the right, and somebody who’s a well-funded candidate could come in to really give him some headaches.
