Scott Taylor Fails to Oppose Offshore Drilling Plan

Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced plans to dramatically expand oil drilling in the Atlantic, including new leases off the Virginia coast.

What did Rep. Scott Taylor have to say about this serious policy shift that could have a potentially devastating impact on the Hampton Roads tourism, fishing, and defense industries? Nothing.

The plan earned immediate opposition from Republican and Democratic Governors and representatives up and down the east coast.

The Virginia Beach and Norfolk city councils had already taken strong stances against offshore drilling, as had the Virginia Beach hoteliers and restaurant associations and Resort Advisory Commission.

Why? Because fishing, tourism, and recreation support tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of economic activity across the Commonwealth, including in Hampton Roads.

“There is no good excuse for Rep. Scott Taylor’s failure to oppose a plan to drill for oil off the Virginia coast that poses such a clear danger to the Hampton Roads economy,” said DCCC spokesperson Jacob Peters.
