Rep. Scott Taylor is clearly nervous over the challenge from former Navy Commander and small business owner Elaine Luria, and it’s showing.
FIRST… on Friday The Virginian-Pilot published a lengthy, profanity-laden rant from Taylor in which he, um, disputed the assertion that he should tell voters whether he supports GOP senate nominee and known white nationalist sympathizer Corey Stewart:
“I don’t give a s— about Corey Stewart,” Taylor said. “No one else does either except for Democrats who are trying to target me. … No one cares, except for a small teeny amount of people you met at the cupcake place. What are they trying to say? That Scott Taylor likes Corey Stewart so therefore he’s a racist? Do you think that’s going to play here? My son is named after a black guy. I’m a military guy. We don’t give a s— about where you come from. Black, white, brown, gay, straight. I don’t care.”
THEN… Taylor used his Twitter account to launch an unfounded, bizarre attack on the military service of his opponent, Elaine Luria. Luria is a barrier-breaking career naval officer who retired last year as a Commander after twenty years of service, yet Taylor implied repeatedly that Luria might be lying about her service, and doubled-down on the accusation after veterans called him out.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT… that wasn’t the first time last week Taylor had questioned the military service of a constituent on Twitter. Taylor called a constituent a “supposed veteran” after the constituent, who served twenty-three years in the military, recorded a video about Taylor failing to pay his property taxes.
WHAT’S GETTING UNDER HIS SKIN… Taylor has given some hints about what is causing him to lash out. He has tweeted repeatedly asking the DCCC to release polling numbers from his district.
Worried, Congressman? You should be.
