No Scrubs: Renee Unterman is a Registered Health Care Foe, Not a Registered Nurse

Since her RN license expired in 1984, extreme conservative Renee Unterman has dedicated her life to stripping away Georgians’ health care

There are wolves in sheep’s clothing, and then there’s State Sen. Renee Unterman in a lab coat pretending to give a hoot about Georgia families’ health care.

In her latest campaign mail piece, Senator Unterman sports a white lab coat and clipboard. But Unterman’s RN license expired in 1984, right before she embarked on her decades-long journey as an extreme conservative politician and health care opponent.

Since entering public office in 1986, Senator Unterman has been defined by explosive political battles, her longstanding opposition to expanding health care and — since 2016 — her obedience to President Trump.

Unterman recently earned a high-profile endorsement from former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, who “steadfastly refused to expand Medicaid” during his time in office.

In 2014, “Unterman helped lead an effort to shut down Medicaid expansion in Georgia” in 2014 and opposed it again after Trump’s election in 2016.

Most notoriously, Unterman led the effort to pass Georgia’s “near-total abortion ban” in 2019 and used it as a platform to run for Congress.

“Since her RN license expired in 1984, Senator Unterman has dedicated her decades in office to stripping away Georgians’ health care and reproductive rights,” DCCC spokesman Avery Jaffe said. “No matter how you dress it up, Unterman’s extreme conservative record is clear: she quarterbacked Georgia’s rigid abortion ban and opposed bipartisan efforts to expand access to quality, affordable health care for thousands of Georgia families.”
