| Today, the DCCC announced that Sean McCann has been added to the first round of the committee’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing McCann, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for MI-04.
“Sean McCann is a bipartisan problem solver who has spent his life serving Southwest Michiganders and working so families like his own can achieve the American dream. While Bill Huizenga enriches himself, hikes prices on families, and leaves Michiganders behind, Sean has never forgotten who he works for and will win this race to keep fighting for Southwest Michigan,” said DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene.
Born and raised in Michigan where he is now raising his family, Sean McCann has dedicated his career to giving back to his community: as a nonprofit leader, State Representative, and now a State Senator after flipping a Republican-held seat. For Sean, public service is about problem solving and helping Michigan families achieve the American dream. Sean worked across the aisle to pass bipartisan Medicaid expansion and delivered the largest tax cut in Michigan history. Bill Huizenga has gotten rich in Congress while siding with his billionaire backers over Michigan families but Sean has never forgotten who he works for. In a district that voted for Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Sean is the exact kind of leader to cut through the chaos and get results for Southwest Michigan.
In 2022, both Gretchen Whitmer and Jocelyn Benson won more than 50 percent of the vote in MI-04. Recent polling found McCann and Huizenga statistically tied and Huizenga underwater with the voters.
