Second DCCC TV Ad Reminds Voters of Zeldin’s Failures During the Pandemic

Today, the DCCC released its second television ad in New York’s 1st Congressional District, “Chance,” continuing to expose Rep. Lee Zeldin’s abject failures during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The ad will reach Long Islanders in the 1st district on New York City broadcast and cable beginning today.

Just like the DCCC’s first NY-01 TV ad, at the center of the 30-second spot is Lee Zeldin’s failed leadership as part of the president’s Coronavirus Task Force. Zeldin played politics with the safety of his community, pushing to re-open quickly at the height of the pandemic even as top experts warned of the consequence of doing so and COVID-19 cases surged in Suffolk county. He was even called out for rewriting the early days of the crisis, saying Trump did a phenomenal job. Zeldin pushed hydroxychloroquine, an unproven drug known to have fatal side-effects.

Zeldin even voted against protections for pre-existing conditions.

“Lee Zeldin had the chance to lead, but instead he floundered,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “As a member of the president’s coronavirus task force, Lee played politics with our health and safety, refusing to listen to experts and even peddling unproven and potentially fatal drugs. We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again: Congress is no place for Lee Zeldin.”

TRANSCRIPT

On Trump’s COVID Task Force, Lee Zeldin had a chance to save lives.

Instead, he played politics with them.

Zeldin ignored the experts…

…pushed for re-opening at the height of the pandemic…

And pushed unproven drugs known to have fatal side effects.

Zeldin even voted to gut protections for preexisting conditions…

…which could have left coronavirus patients without coverage during the pandemic.

A pandemic is no place for politics.  And Congress is no place for Lee Zeldin.
