Second NH-01 GOP Debate: Mowers Bails, Race to Right Prevails

The Republican field in NH-01 had their second debate with the Government Integrity Project Saturday night. We watched so you didn’t have to.

Here are the takeaways:

  • Candidates continued to attack Social Security, with Gail Huff Brown calling for a 5% cut to the Social Security Administration.

  • The four candidates who did attend continued to attack law enforcement, despite continued escalation and violence against the FBI and a judge in wake of the Trump document scandal.

    • Every candidate said they wanted to impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland.

    • Tim Baxter said he wanted to “gut the DOJ and FBI like a fish.”

    • Karoline Leavitt said she wanted to “drag them [FBI] through the mud” and then investigate and incarcerate FBI agents.

  • All four candidates opposed any measures to ensure gun safety, including universal background checks and red flag laws. Karoline Leavitt even said she wanted to repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act.

  • Karoline Leavitt wants to abolish core government agencies including the Department of Energy.

DCCC spokesperson James Singer:
“This race to the right hasn’t hit bottom yet, with this GOP crew vowing to destroy programs like Social Security and public education that Granite State families rely on.”
