Mike Lawler just got caught doing what Washington politicians do best: voting one way and then telling voters the exact opposite. Last week, Lawler cast a deciding vote on his party’s “Big, Ugly Bill” — a massive tax giveaway to billionaires and big corporations that would force nearly $500 billion in cuts to Medicare according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
And yet, Lawler is shamelessly lying to his constituents, telling local media the tax scam “does nothing to cut Medicare,” and maintaining an entire page on his official website proclaiming his support for Medicare and vowing never to cut it.
So which is it, Mike? Are you lying, are you a coward—or do you just not understand how voting works?
The truth is simple: Mike Lawler knew exactly what he was doing when he voted to slash Medicare and jeopardize health care for tens of thousands of people in NY-17 — giving tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of everyday New Yorkers who won’t forget that Lawler sold them out.
DCCC Spokesperson Riya Vashi:
“If Mike Lawler wants to know why New Yorkers are fed up with D.C. politicians, he should look in the mirror. Lawler voted for a bill that would force over half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare, then turned around and told seniors he’s protecting them. He’s either too dumb to understand what he voted for — or he thinks New Yorkers are dumb enough to believe him.”
